Just read the research study “After School Fitness Performance is Not Altered After Physical Education Lessons in Adolescent Athletes” in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Essentially some are concerned that the kids may be doing too much in PE class and that their performance may be altered in after school sport activities. For the record no significant performance decreases were seen.
However, the questions I had were who possibly thinks our kids do too much in PE? And, have we gone so far with winning that we are concerned about kids being kids. The best developer of athleticism is allowing kids to play tag, fall down, tackle each other, etc. Most every Sunday my kids and I load up the sports equipment and go to the park for Dad Day. They absolutely love it! Get out and play with your kids.
